Homicity Is Here: Clearer Property Data for Canadians

Homicity is founded with a simple mission: help Canadians make better real estate decisions through clearer, more useful and more accessible property data.

Today we are introducing Homicity, and we want to begin with the reason we exist rather than a list of features. Buying or selling a home is one of the largest decisions most Canadians will ever make, yet the information behind that decision is often scattered, confusing, or locked behind people who trade on knowing more than you do. We think that is backwards. Property data should be clear, useful, and accessible to the ordinary buyer and seller, not just to insiders. That belief is the whole reason this small team came together, and it is the promise we intend to keep.

Why we started

Every one of us has sat across a kitchen table trying to make sense of a housing market that felt deliberately opaque. What is a fair price? Is this neighbourhood on the way up or already peaked? How much does a rate change actually cost me over the life of a mortgage? These are answerable questions, but the answers are usually buried. We started Homicity because we were tired of watching good people make enormous financial decisions with a fraction of the information they deserved.

What we believe about data

Data on its own is not the point. A spreadsheet does not calm your nerves the night before you sign an offer. What matters is turning raw numbers into something a person can actually use to make a confident, informed choice. Our job is to do the difficult, unglamorous work of gathering, cleaning and explaining property information so that you do not have to. When we get it right, the market feels a little less like a game with hidden rules and a little more like a decision you can reason about.

Who Homicity is for

We are building for first-time buyers stretching to afford their first place, for growing families deciding whether to move, and for sellers who want to understand what their home is really worth before they list. We are a young company with a lot to prove, and we would rather be genuinely helpful to a few people than vaguely impressive to everyone. If you have ever felt out of your depth in a real estate conversation, you are exactly who we are here for.

The market we are launching into

It is an interesting moment to arrive. Canada is not one housing market but many, and they are pulling in different directions. Toronto and Vancouver are running hot, with detached-home prices climbing and affordability under real strain, while parts of the Prairies are cooling as lower oil prices weigh on Alberta. Borrowing costs are unusually low. These are exactly the conditions where clear information matters most, because averages hide as much as they reveal.

How we will earn your trust

We will publish honest analysis, admit what we do not know, and keep the hype to a minimum. You will find no breathless predictions here, only careful reading of what the numbers suggest. Trust is earned slowly and lost quickly, and we would rather build it the slow way. This blog is where we will show our work.

What comes next

This is the first post on the Homicity blog, and there will be many more. In the months ahead we will publish regular market reports, regional spotlights, and plain-language guides for buyers and sellers. If our mission resonates with you, follow along. We are just getting started, and we are glad you are here at the beginning. Better real estate decisions start with better information, and that is the work we are committing to.
