Ottawa's hottest spring garage sales

When the snow melts and Ottawans emerge from under piles of parkas, you know it’s a special season in the capital. Yes, 'tis the season for garage sales! The garage, yard, or rummage sale is a Canadian springtime tradition that helps clear clutter and rescue used (but perfectly fine!) goods from landfills. It’s also an amazing way to score unique, vintage, or upscale items on a budget!

Check out the hottest bargains coming to the capital this spring:

Blackburn Garage Sale

In the family friendly community of Blackburn Hamlet lies some unexpectedly good deals! The Blackburn Community Association is holding its annual garage sale on Saturday, May 4th (the rain date is Sunday May 5th). They have even curated a map for bargain hunters to narrow down exactly where to start their search - download it here.

Pro tip: The colour coded map also includes where to grab the best snacks and the freshest lemonade from local entrepreneurs.

Location: Throughout the community of Blackburn Hamlet.

Date: Saturday, May 4th

Ok, ok, so a flea market is technically not a garage sale. However, we think 613flea deserves a special mention on this bargain-hunter’s list. The monthly flea market hosts a variety of vendors, from artists to musicians to chefs to entrepreneurs to makers, all from the Ottawa area. 613flea aims to support Ottawa’s creative community by providing a free marketplace - yes, it’s completely free to attend - for vintage, up-cycled, recycled, or re-imagined goods. This popular event is held roughly every month at the Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne, with the next upcoming market taking place on Saturday, May 4th. For a complete list of dates, sign up for their mailing list here.

Pro tip: This is an awesome market for those of you (like me) who like to sleep in. Since the doors don’t open until 10am, you’ve got plenty of time for morning coffee- just don’t forget to save room for a fresh treat or local snack.

Location: Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne.

Date: Next market is on Saturday, May 4th @ 10:00am

Good Companions Book, Bake, and Plant Sale

After scoring so many cute bookcases, shelves, and planters, now it’s time to put them to use! Head over to the Good Companions Senior Centre in Lebreton Flats for their annual Book, Bake, and Plant Sale. Unsurprisingly, this sale features an amazing collection of used books, plants of all varieties, and delicious home-baked treats. All proceeds will go towards updating the accessibility features of the centre itself.

Location: The Good Companions Senior Centre, 670 Albert Street

Date: Saturday, May 11th @ 10:00am

The Great Glebe Garage Sale

Of course, no article about garage sales would be complete without mentioning the Great Glebe. This annual neighbourhood wide sale takes place on the last Saturday in May - this year, that’s Saturday, May 25th, 2019. Wander the historic neighbourhood of the Glebe and score some awesome vintage furniture, clothing, books, toys, and more. Ecology Ottawa will be handing out free tree saplings and other resources to reduce your environmental footprint at their community booth located at 680 Bank Street. You can also recycle e-waste at Glebe Collegiate Institute’s annual E-Waste Collection. As always, a portion of the proceeds from the sale will support the Ottawa Food Bank.

Pro tip: Don’t sleep in! The sale starts at around 8am, and the best items go fast - remember, the early bird gets the worm (or the trendy nightstand, or the vintage dress, or…)

Location: at the Glebe Community Centre and throughout the Glebe

Date: Saturday, May 25th @ 8:00am

Big Beacon Hill Garage Sale

Beacon Heights, Beacon Hill South, and Beacon Hill North have teamed up to bring you one of the city’s largest community yard sales. This outdoor event is held on Saturday, June 1st by the Beacon Hill Community Association and takes place throughout the neighbourhood.

Pro tip: Download the map of vendors to plan your route and maximize your bargain hunt!

Location: Throughout Beacon Hill South, Beacon Hill North, and Beacon Heights.

Date: Saturday, June 1st

Pineview Community Garage Sale

Pineview is known for its peaceful atmosphere and scenic natural surroundings. On Saturday, June 1st, it will also be known for some of east Ottawa’s hottest deals! Head to St. John Paul II School for a variety of sports equipment, kid’s clothing, baby supplies, and more.

Pro tip: Don’t fret if you miss the summer garage sale - the Pineview Community Association also hosts a back-to-school clothing swap every August!

Location: St. John Paul II Catholic School, 1500 Beaverpond Drive

Date: Saturday, June 1st

Kitchissippi Community-wide Garage Sale

The Champlain Park Community Association, which serves the neighbourhoods of Champlain Park, Hintonburg, Island Park, Civic Hospital, and Carlington, will be hosting its annual community wide garage sale on Saturday, June 1st (rain date is Sunday, June 2nd).

Pro tip: The sale begins at 8am sharp, so set that alarm clock! The sale wraps up around 1pm.

Location: Throughout Champlain Park, Hintonburg, Island Park, Civic Hospital, and Carlington.

Date: Saturday, June 1st @ 8:00am.

Half Moon Bay Community Sale

Don’t fret, west-Ottawans, we haven’t forgotten you. Head to Stonebridge for the annual neighbourhood-wide Half Moon Bay Garage Sale on Sunday, June 2nd at 10am in the Half Moon Bay community, in the southwest corner of scenic Nepean.

Location: Throughout the Half Moon Bay community in Stonebridge, Nepean.

Date: Sunday, June 2nd @10:00am.

MAIN Event: Garage Sale

Each spring, the Old Ottawa East Community Association hosts their annual community wide garage sale. Both residents and businesses are invited to set up sales on sidewalks throughout the historic neighbourhood of Old Ottawa East.

Pro tip: stick around when you’re done shopping for the annual Street Party, taking place on Main Street from Hazel to Clegg. Festivities start at 10am!

Location: Many booths will be set up at Calvary Baptist Church as well as throughout Old Ottawa East.

Date: Saturday, June 15th @ 8:00am

Ottawa Give Away Weekend

Hit all the garage sales and still couldn’t find what you were looking for? The Give Away Weekend is a perfect opportunity to find free items in your neighbourhood. Also, if you found the perfect replacement for that futon you’ve had since college, you can leave your it out on the curb on Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th with a ‘free’ sign for someone else to use. Recycling used items like this helps reduce unnecessary waste and keeps our city clean!

Location: Your very own curb!

Date: Saturday, June 8th - Sunday, June 9th.

Before you can start your bargain hunting, you’re going to need a place to put all of your unique finds. Start your home search on to find the perfect property in your neighbourhood!
